SHOOTING BIG IN A 78-63 LOSS AT GANNON
ERIE, Pa. - The charity stripe and foul trouble led
to a 78-63 road loss for the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday.
SVSU hit 12-of-18 (.667) from the line, but Gannon used percision
30-of-33 (.909) shooting from the line to provide the difference
in the ballgame. The Cards had four players in the frontcourt foulout
leading to a huge inside advantage for the Golden Knights. No frontcourt
player for Saginaw Valley State saw more than 20 minutes of action
due to the whistle.
The teams were playing it close in
the game's opening minutes and the Cards led a 14-12 lead at the
13:55 mark. However, it would be their final lead of the game. Gannon
used a 11-2 spurt in the final four minutes of the first half to
take a 42-31 lead into the break. SVSU would only get as close as
eight points in the second half and Gannon led by as many as 20
points late in the game.
Senior Anthony Parker
(Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) has began to find his scoring
touch after missing several weeks due to injury finishing with a
team-high 16 points. Parker was 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6
from the arc in 30 minutes. Junior forward Ron McGrew
(Inkster, Mich./Robichaud) came off the bench to score
11 points and pull down six boards. He fouled out having played
18 minutes and also tallying two blocks. Senior Kenny Nether
(Southfield, Mich./Canton) tossed in 11 points and was
5-of-8 shooting in 18 minutes.
The Golden Knights were led by senior
center Geoff Husted who posted a double-double with 18 points and
10 rebounds. Saginaw Valley (7-8, 2-4 GLIAC) shot 35.5 percent for
the game and Gannon shot 44.9 percent.
