Cardinals Grounded by Huskies

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team fell to Michigan Tech by a score of 90-55 on Thursday (January 16). The Huskies entered the contest ranked fourth in NCAA Division II and left with another impressive victory. Tech jumped out to a 46-26 lead at half-time and didn’t allow the Cardinals to get any closer after the break.
     Sophomore Anthony Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) led SVSU with a team-high eleven points, while senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista HS) chipped in with ten points and six rebounds. Junior Maurice Brown (Detroit, Mich./Cody HS) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and added eight points to the Cardinal cause.
     J.T. Luginski led the Huskies with game highs of 21 points and ten rebounds, as all-American Matt Cameron was held to just five points on the night. Josh Buettner and Caleb Lamz scored in double figures as well, with 14 and eleven points, respectively. Jason Marcotte chipped in with nine points and a game-high six assists for Tech.
     The Huskies shot an impressive 47.9% (9-19) from three-point range, while the Cardinals failed to make a single three-point field goal in 18 attempts. Tech also held commanding advantages in field goal percentage (47.9% to 29.7%), rebounds (54-38), and assists (21-9).
     The loss is the Cardinals’ fifth straight and drops them to 8-8 (2-5 GLIAC) on the season, while the Huskies up their record to 15-1 (7-0 GLIAC). SVSU returns to action on Saturday (January 18) at 3:00p.m. against Northern Michigan in the James E. O’Neill, Jr. Arena.
