Cardinals Scratch Out Win Over Cougars

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team earned a hard fought 58-51 victory over Spring Arbor University on Wednesday (December 18). The game was tied at halftime, 29-29, and the teams played even until the Cardinals pulled ahead by six points (50-44) with 6:04 remaining in the game.
     Sophomore Anthony Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) topped the Cardinals with twelve points and a game-high four assists. The only other Cardinal to reach double figures in the scoring column was senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista HS), who added ten points to go along with a game-high four blocked shots. Junior Maurice Brown (Detroit, Mich./Cody HS) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and added eight points to the Cardinal cause. Parker also added nine rebounds, helping SVSU to a 44-37 advantage on the boards.
     Spring Arbor placed two players in double figures in the scoring column, with
Ryan Walter leading the way with a game-high 19 points in 34 minute. Jason DeSmyter, playing against his twin brother Josh of SVSU, added 15 points in 28 minutes for the Cougars.
     SVSU moves to 6-3 (2-1 GLIAC) on the season, while Spring Arbor drops to 8-7. The Cardinals return to the court Thursday (December 19) against St. Mary's College at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30p.m.
