Cardinals Fall to Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team fell to Lake Superior State by a score of 92-79 on Saturday (February 1). The Cardinals trailed by ten points (41-31) at halftime and failed to get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
     Sophomore Rojelio Grady (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson HS) led the Cardinal offensive attack with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista HS) and sophomore Anthony Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) each recorded double-figure scoring outputs with 14 and twelve points, respectively. Freshman Joel Wood (Southfield, Mich./U of D Jesuit HS) posted his first career double-double as he scored a career-high 13 points and corralled a game-high and career-high ten rebounds.
     LSSU had three players score in double figures, with Scott Jamison leading the way with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference scoring leader Ben Dewar pitched in with 24 points, aided by 11-of-15 shooting from the free-throw line. Ryan Hiller rounded out the LSSU double-figure trio with eleven points. Jamison and Dewar each pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Dewar also added a game-high three assists.
     SVSU drops to 10-11 (4-8 GLIAC) with the loss, while LSSU (11-10, 5-7 GLIAC) moves one game ahead of the Cardinals in the GLIAC North Division. The Cardinals return to action on Thursday (February 6) with a road contest against Michigan Tech at 7:30p.m.
