Cardinals Get Even With Chargers

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team earned an 85-72 win over Hillsdale College Monday (December 2). The Cardinals held a 37-33 advantage going into the half and never trailed after the break. The victory is the Cardinals' fourth straight and avenges an 84-68 loss to the Chargers in the GLIAC North/South Classic just nine days ago.
     Sophomore Anthony Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) recorded a game-high 23 points on 7-16 shooting from the field, 4-7 from three-point range, and 5-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore David Williams (Laingsburg, Mich.) posted his first double-double of the season with season highs of 18 points and ten rebounds. Senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista HS) added 17 points and sophomore Rojelio Grady (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson HS) recorded 11 points to go with seven rebounds for the Cardinals.
     Hillsdale placed five players in double figures in points with Jonathon Dues leading the way with 18 points. Matt Mlynarchek and Chris Northcross each added 13 points, while Brooks Miller and Cory Coe each added 12. Mlynarchek also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
     The Cardinals outshot the Chargers from everywhere on the floor, holding margins of 50.8% to 36.6% from the field, 42.1% to 26.7% from three-point range, and 78.9% to 57.1% from the free throw line. The boards were relatively even, with SVSU holding a slim 41-40 advantage.
     SVSU moves to 4-2 (2-0 GLIAC) on the season, while Hillsdale drops to 3-2 (0-1 GLIAC). The Cardinals hit the road for a contest with Ashland University Thursday (December 5) at 7:30p.m.
