Bulldogs Crush Cardinals’ Tournament Hopes

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team dropped a 78-65 decision to Ferris State on Saturday (February 15). The Bulldogs held a ten-point halftime advantage (40-30) and didn’t allow the Cardinals to get closer than nine points after the ten-minute mark. The loss likely ends any hopes the Cardinals had of making the GLIAC post-season tournament.
Senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista) led the Cardinals with 18 points, six assists and a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore David Williams (Laingsburg, Mich.) pitched in with 15 points in limited action due to foul trouble, while GLIAC rebounding leader Maurice Brown (Detroit, Mich./Cody) added eight points and seven rebounds in a losing cause.
Ferris State had four players score in double figures, as Dennis Springs led the Bulldogs with game highs of 19 points and seven assists. Willie Thomas added 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting off of the bench, including two rim-rattling dunks. Adam Anderson and Carlton Epps followed with 14 and eleven points, respectively. Anderson also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The loss is the Cardinals’ second straight and drops them to 11-14 (5-11 GLIAC) on the season, while the Bulldogs up their record to 10-14 (6-10 GLIAC). SVSU returns to action on Thursday (February 20) against Lake Superior State University at 7:30p.m. in the James E. O’Neill, Jr. Arena.
