Prior to SVSU: Prepped at Fort Atkinson High School in Wisconsin under head coach Steve Mahoney...was a three-year starter on varsity and named team MVP his junior and senior years along with being team captain...named First Team All-Conference Running Back junior and senior years, and First Team All-Conference Defensive Back as a senior...named First Team Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All Southeast Region Team and WI State Journal All-Area...school record 3400 career rushing yards...also was a three year starter in the outfield in baseball...was an honor roll student and earned four academic letter awards.

Prior to SVSU: Three year letter winner at linebacker for West Ottawa High School...two-time captain for West Ottawa in both football and basketball...all-time leading tackler at West Ottawa with 423 total tackles for his career...three-time all-conference selection in football...all-state honorable mention for football in 2006 and 2007...also won four letters in baseball and three in basketball...named all-conference and all-district three times in baseball...Jim Caserta was his head coach at West Ottawa during his three seasons on the varsity team...honor roll student all four years at West Ottawa...four year Scholar-Athlete award winner...named Academic All-State in 2007...

Prior to SVSU: Prepped at Crown Point High School in Indiana under head coach Chip Pettit...named First Team Bloomington-Herald Times Big State, First Team AP 5A All-State, First Team IFCA 5A Senior All-State, First Team Post Tribute All-Area, First Team Times All-Area, and First Team All-Conference...member of National Honor Society, had highest GPA on football team (4.023), and earned the Scholar Athlete Award.

Coach Collins says: "Zach is a physically dominant player at tight end, but is also capable of flexing out wide and still making the big play. He has great hands and is very athletic."

Prior to SVSU: Prepped at Grand Rapids West Catholic High School under head coach Dan Rohn...QB'ed his high school to a 12-1 senior year record and was varsity for all four years...also was a pitcher for the baseball team and played guard for the basketball team...during his senior year he passed for 2500 yards and rushed for 1050, accounting for 40 touchdowns (27 pass/13 rush), all of which were school records...was named to following First Teams: All-Conference, GR Press All-Area Dream Team, Associated Press All-State, Advance News All-Area, All-State QB Detroit News Division 5, and All-State QB Detroit Free Press Division 5...was named Burger King Athlete of the Week, McDonalds Scholar Athlete of the Week, and was selected to play in the MHSFCA 2008 All-Star Game at Spartan Stadium...also named Mid-Michigan Touchdown Club Great 8 Region 2 Best High School QB...earned the West Catholic Scholar Athlete Award and was an honors student.

Prior to SVSU: Four year letter-winner at wide receiver for Dewitt High School...named Division 3 & 4 All-State, Detroit News Dream Team, Lansing State Journal Dream Team and All-CAAC member in 2007...set school records for most touchdown receptions in a season (19), most receiving yards in a season (1,302), most receptions in a season (66) and most receiving yards in a game (217)...part of conference championship football teams in 2006 and 2007...also ranks fourth for his 19 touchdowns in a season and sixth for his 1,302 receiving yards in the State of Michigan record books...also won letters in basketball and tennis at Dewitt HS...made three appearances in the State Finals in tennis
