Kiernan enters his seventh season as Assistant Head Coach/Offensive
Coordinator with the Cardinals. He came to SVSU with Awrey from
Lakeland College (Wis.). In 2002 the Cardinals led the conference
in passing yards and finished second in the GLIAC in scoring. SVSU
set a new school record with 479 total points scored in 2003.
During the 1998 season, Kiernan served as Awrey’s offensive
coordinator, quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, and strength
and conditioning coordinator at Lakeland College. Kiernan helped
the Muskies’ offense to a No. 13 ranking in total offense,
No. 15 in pass offense and No. 24 in points per game among NCAA
Division III teams during the 1998 season.
Previously, Kiernan worked as offensive coordinator at Mercyhurst
College (1995-97), outside linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator
at Alabama A&M University (1994), and offensive coordinator
at Kentucky Wesleyan College (1990-93). In the summer of 1990, Kiernan
was head coach for the Moscow Stars, which posted an undefeated
season.
Kiernan was a four-year starter at his alma mater, St. Lawrence
University in Canton, New York. As a prep, Kiernan played for one
of the top teams in the metro New York area at St. Francis Prep,
where he earned three varsity letters. Kiernan earned a B.A. in
Economics from St. Lawrence in 1990.
Kiernan and his wife, Colleen - a native of Painesville, Ohio -
were married in 2004.
