MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State

(November 9). After the Wildcats scored 15 consecutive points to
take a 24-21 lead, Keath Bartynski (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel

two NMU possessions, and allowed the Cardinals to run out the clock.
The Wildcats outgained the Cardinals in total
offense by a 578 to 359 margin, but on three different occasion
in the first half, the SVSU defense forced Northern Michigan to
settle for field goals inside the red zone, yielding just nine points
in the first half. The Cardinals enjoyed a 14-9 halftime advantage
thanks to two touchdown receptions by wide receiver Ruvell Martin
(Muskegon, Mich./Catholic Central HS).
Martin and quarterback Matt LaFleur (Mt.
Pleasant, Mich.) hooked up a third time early in the third quarter

Junior wideout Glenn Martinez (Auburndale,
Fla.) recorded a career-high 168 receiving yards in the win.
Nick Allen (Big Rapids, Mich.) and Jason Battershell
(Rochester Hills, Mich.) led the defense, as each recorded
nine tackles. Allen also tallied his 19th career sack, moving him
into a tie for third place on SVSU's all-time sack list with Eugene
Marve (1978-81) and Paul Spicer (1996-97). Junior running back Jason
Chounard (Norway, Mich.) became the school's all-time

34 yards on five returns, moving him past Charles
Davis (1993-96) and into the top spot.
