Cardinals Grab GLIAC Honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Two of Saginaw Valley State University's senior co-captains earned GLIAC football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors. Quarterback Matt LaFleur (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) earned Offensive Player of the Week Honors, while safety Pat Cavanaugh (Troy, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) was tabbed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
LaFleur completed 12-of-20 pass attempts for 221 yards and four TDs. He also rushed for 46 yards and a score during SVSU's 69-7 win over Findlay on Saturday (October 12). The Cardinal offense recorded a season-high 611 yards of total offense against the Oilers. LaFleur now leads the GLIAC in pass efficiency with a 182.5 rating.
Cavanaugh helped lead an opportunistic defense, which forced five Findlay turnovers. Cavanaugh tallied ten tackles, including one for loss to go along with a forced fumble and an interception. The Cardinals limited the Oilers to a season-low seven points. Cavanaugh is tied for 21st place in the GLIAC in tackles per game, averaging 7.2 stops per contest.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday (October 19) when they host top-ranked Grand Valley State University at Wickes Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon.
