Trump Salem International, 7-6
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Saginaw
Valley State University baseball team earned a hard fought 7-6
victory over Salem International on Monday (Feb. 28). With the
scored tied 6-6 in the ninth inning, the Cardinals scored in the
top half of the inning and held on for the victory.
Junior Kyle Lepplemeier
(Edgerton, Ohio) pitched four and a third innings,
allowing six runs on seven hits before giving way to Aaron
Dorgan (Jackson, Mich.). Dorgan pitched a scoreless
inning, allowing two hits and walking two batters. Jesse
Thompson (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) pitched
the final 1.2 innings to earn the win, allowing only one hit.
Joe Funsch (Clio,
Mich.) led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with a run
scored. Dale Marsden (Sarnia, Ontario)
went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Jason
Burghardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) went 1-for-1
with two walks, one RBI and a run scored, while Dan Jones
(Gladstone, Mich.) went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Chris Norton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic
Central) went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run
scored.
The Cardinals improve their record
to 2-2 on the young season, while Thompson moves to 1-0.
