CARDS TRIPPED
UP BY SPARTANS, 20-9
EAST LANSING, Mich. –
The Saginaw Valley State baseball squad ran into a tough hitting
ballclub on Tuesday as the Michigan State Spartans pounded out
26 hits and cruised to a 20-9 win. Junior Elijah Martin
(Imlay City, Mich.) took the loss and falls to 2-1 on
the year. Martin tossed two innings and gave up seven earned runs.
Junior Jason Burghardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford)
was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI from the leadoff spot.
Junior Dale Marsden (Sarnia, Ont.) had
the best hitting day as he collected two doubles and two RBI in
three at-bats. The Cardinals scored two runs in the second inning,
four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the ninth inning.
Freshman Brandon Fanion (Marysville, Mich.)
collected an RBI double in the ninth and redshirt freshman Brent
Skiba (Lake Orion, Mich.) collected his first
RBI in a single in the ninth. SVSU (13-4) plays at home tomorrow
in a doubleheader against Alma scheduled for 1:00 pm.
