REID
THROWS COMPLETE GAME IN 15-4 WIN OVER EASTERN MICHIGAN
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Senior
Ryan Reid (Sarnia, Ont./East Lambton)
was a workhorse on the mound on Thursday as he picked up the biggest
win of his career and improved to 1-0 with a 15-4 drubbing of
the Division I Eagles of Eastern Michigan. Reid threw nine innings
and allowed 13 hits, but scattered single runs in the third, fourth,
seventh and ninth innings. He gave up three earned runs, walked
three and struck out nine.
The Cardinals captured their sixth
straight win by again jumping out early and often in the first
three innings building a 6-1 lead. Junior Jason Burghardt
(Temperance, Mich./Bedford) found his power from the
eighth spot as he delivered a three-run homer in the third, his
first of the year. SVSU also scored three runs in the fourth,
sixth and seventh innings to cruise to the win. Junior Justin
Doughty (Oscoda, Mich.) homered for the second
time this season, a three-run blast, in the sixth inning and junior
Dale Marsden (Sarnia, Ont./Northern Collegiate)
capped off a big game with his sixth homer, a three-run roundtripper
to right center, in the seventh.
Marsden was 2-for-5 with a season-high
five RBI. Freshman Brandon Fanion (Marysville,
Mich.) went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Burghardt
collected four RBI and scored twice and catcher Ken Hoffman
(Midland, Mich.) walked four times and scored
three runs. SVSU collected 14 hits off of five Eastern pitchers
and EMU issued 10 walks.
SVSU (10-2) faces Hillsdale College
in a doubleheader on Saturday in their home opener scheduled for
a 1:00 pm first pitch.
