CARDINALS
SCORE 31 RUNS IN SWEEP OF ALMA
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. –
The offense kept rolling along this season for the Saginaw Valley
State Cardinals as they recorded a pair of wins on Wednesday from
the SVSU Baseball Field. SVSU scored a season-high 21 runs in
a 21-3 game one win which featured 19 walks from Alma pitching
and three big innings. SVSU scored six runs in the third inning,
eight in the fourth and seven in the fifth after being held scoreless
in the first two innings. Junior Aaron Dorgan
(Jackson, Mich.) improved to 2-0 on the hill going six innings
and allowing two hits and one earned run. Dorgan threw 92 pitches
and struck out five. Freshman Brandon Fanion
(Marysville, Mich.) collected a team-high three RBI and was 2-for-6.
Freshman Max Bell (Goodrich, Mich.) walked three
times and scored two runs with two RBI. Junior Jason Burghardt
(Temperance, Mich./Bedford) walked a career-high five times and
collected two RBI.
The Cardinals scored five runs
in the second inning and four more in the third building a 9-1
lead after three before winning 10-1. Sophomore Kori Garman
(Goodrich, Mich.) earned his first win of the year throwing six
innings and striking out seven. Freshman Reed Welker
(Toledo, Ohio/St. John's) had his first multi-hit game going 2-for-4
with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Danny Patterson
(Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) collected a two-run double
and three RBI for the game.
SVSU (15-4) had a big four-game
set at home this weekend against Grand Valley State with a doubleheader
set for Saturday at 1:00 pm and Sunday at 12:00 pm.
