Oilers Drill Cardinals
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. –
Saginaw Valley State dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the
University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 26). The Cardinals
fell 7-1 in the opener and 10-2 in the second game of the twinbill.
In game one, the Cardinals (23-12, 13-7 GLIAC)
failed to move a runner across the plate until the bottom of the
seventh inning, when T. J. Lehnertz (Grand
Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS) doubled to center, scoring
Kyle Weessies (Climax, Mich./Scott HS) from
second base. Eric Caldwell (Cary Grove, Ill.)
started and took the loss for the Cardinals, throwing six
innings. The Oilers (11-29, 7-15 GLIAC) pushed two runs across
in the first and third innings and three more in the seventh on
the way to the 7-1 victory.
In game two, the Cardinals again failed
to move a runner across the plate until the bottom of the seventh
inning when Kevin Hubbs (Mt. Morris, Mich.)
scored from third on a wild pitch and Chris Norton
(Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS) advanced to
third, eventually scoring on an error. Mark Debo (Bay
City, Mich./John Glenn HS) took the loss, being chased after
allowing six runs in one third of an inning.
The Cardinals and Oilers will conclude
their weekend series with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader, Sunday (Apr.
27) at the SVSU Baseball Field.
