Unranked Cardinals Beat-Up on #10 Eagles
University Center, Mich- Saginaw Valley
State University came back to steal a win from nationally-ranked
Ashland University winning 11-8 after falling behind by six in
the first two innings on Friday. The Cardinals chipped away at
the lead before they eventually tied the score in the bottom of
the third on a T.J. Lehnertz (Grand Rapids/Catholic
Central H.S.) double that drove home two.
In the bottom of the fourth, SVSU
pulled away for good on a Justin Garcia (Bay City/Western
H.S.) three-run homer. He ended the day with three RBI's and
three runs scored. Scott Corby (London, Ont./AB Lucus)
got the win (4-1) and Adam Ruffner (Gibraltar/Carlson
H.S.) picked up the save (2).
The Cardinals move to 10-2
(2-0 GLIAC) while Ashland falls to 18-4 (4-1 GLIAC). The second
game was postponed due to rain and will be made up on Saturday
March 30 at 11 am. The Cardinals are scheduled to play a double-header
against Ashland following the make-up contest at SVSU Baseball
Stadium.
