Cardinals Take Two in Florida

FORT MEYERS, Fla.- The SVSU baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Sunday (Feb. 24). The Cardinals defeated Capital University (Ohio) 5-0 in the first game, before defeating Alma College 15-4 in the evening.
   Scott Corby (London, Ontario, CA/AB Lucas) threw five shutout innings against Capital to pick up the win. Junior Eric Caldwell (Cary Grove, Ill.) came on in relief to close out the win in the sixth and seventh innings.
   In the second contest of the day against Alma College, senior Toby Larkin (Bridgeport) came on in relief to pick up the win, while Jay Scott (Berlington, Ontario, CA/Aldershot) went 4-of-5 from the plate.
   The Cardinals received strong offensive performances by Adam Piggott (Sarnia, Ontario, CA/Sarnia Collegiate) who went 4-of-8 on the day, and Mike Condon (Utica) who finished 3-of-6 at the plate on Sunday.
   The wins give SVSU a 2-0 start to the 2002 season. The Cardinals will face St. Vencent on Monday (Feb. 25). SVSU's home opener will be March 19, against Madonna University at 2:00 p.m.
