Cards Fall From Ranks of Unbeaten

FT. MYERS, FL — The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team lost for the first time in the 2000 season, dropping a 8-4 decision to Mansfield University (PA).
     Sophomore lefthander Andy Scott (Bay City/Western) took the loss for the Cardinals, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 3-2/3 innings pitched.
     Senior catcher Josh Miller (Whitby, Ont., Can.) had a solid day at the plate for the SVSU going three-for-four with a double and a home run. Sophomore Chris Ebright (Ithaca) also chipped in with a one-for-three effort that included an RBI.
     Bay City's Justin Garcia (Bay City/Western) continued his hot hitting streak with a two-for-four day that raised his season average to .500.
     The loss drops the Cardinals to 5-1 on the season. The squad will try to rebound on Friday with a double header against Bloomsburg University (PA) at 11 a.m. and Salem-Teikyo University (WV) at 5 p.m.
