Cardinals Knock Off Rockhurst FT. MYERS, FL – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team bounced back from a pair of losses Friday, by coming from behind to beat No. 17-ranked Rockhurst University, MO, 11-6 Saturday evening. The No. 16-ranked Cardinals scored seven runs in the seventh inning to erase a 6-4 deficit. Sophomore Sean Odamura (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) delivered an RBI single to give SVSU the lead, but it was a quintet of juniors that did the bulk of the damage for the Cardinals. Justin Garcia (Bay City/Central) had an RBI and three hits for SVSU, including a double to lead off the seventh. Jay Scott (Berlington Ontario/Aldershot) knocked in three runs with a pair of hits. Mike Condon (Utica) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Chris Ebright (Ithaca) scored twice and had a two-run single. Ryan Wilkinson (Dearborn) had two walks and was hit by a pitch, scoring two runs. Senior Jason Valenzuela (Ontario, CA/Damien) had a hit and scored twice, freshmen Jason Newcomb (Caro) and Adam Piggott (Sarnia Ontario/Sarnia Collegiate) each delivered key RBI singles. Sophomore right-hander Scott Corby (London, Ontario/AB Lucas) improved to 2-0, scattering eight hits and five walks in six innings. He allowed six runs and struck out four. Senior All-American lefty Tim Goheen (Proton Station, Ontario) worked the seventh inning for SVSU with a typical performance. After a leadoff ground out, he walked the next batter and picked him off first. He closed the victory with a strikeout. The Cardinals take a 6-3 overall record into their Spring Trip finale Sunday night against Winona State University, MN, at 6 p.m.
