SVSU Beats Olivet 16-2

OLIVET – A power surge allowed Saginaw Valley State University to beat Olivet College Thursday on the strength of three home runs.
     Junior Chris Ebright (Ithaca) had two-run homer and sophomore Justin Young (Flint/Kearsley) added a grand slam in as the Cardinals scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. Junior Scott Head (Montrose) capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run round-tripper.
     Ebright's homer was his first of the season and ninth of his career, while Young and Head blasted their first dingers.
     SVSU also got a strong pitching performance from freshman right-hander Heath Craven (Hartland), who worked seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks, while striking out one to improve to 2-0.
     Junior righty Toby Larkin (Bridgeport) worked a scoreless eighth inning, yeilding one hit and fanning one. Sophomore right hander Adam Campbell (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) gave up an unearned run in the ninth, on two hits, while striking out one.
     Freshman Adam Piggot (Sarnia Ontario/Sarnia Collegiate) added two hits, including a double, while sophomore Sean Odamura (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) had two singles and a walk. Junior Ryan Wilkinson (Dearborn) had a hit and a walk.
     The Cardinals improved to 7-4 overall and open the GLIAC season at home this weekend against rival Mercyhurst College for doubleheaders at 1 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday.
