MIDLAND - The Saginaw Valley State University men's
baseball team split a double header with host Northwood University
tonight.
Northwood took the first game by the score of 6-1
Senior left hander Tim Goheen (Proton Station, Ontario)
received the loss for the Cardinals. Goheen the winningest pitcher
in Cardinal history set a few more SVSU marks. He is now the all-time
leader in Starts (41), Hits (247), Complete Games (21) and innings
(250.2).
The Cardinals were only able to churn out 4 hits
on the night while Northwood produced 6 runs on 10 hits. The Cardinals
lone run was a homer that came from the bat of Adam Ruffner (Gibraltar/Carlson)
The Cardinals took the second game by the score of 10-3.
Scott Corby (London, Ontario/AB Lucas) won the game
for the Cardinals. The win raises his season record to 11-1. Corby
is now tied for first place in SVSU history for most victories
in a season with teammate Goheen who won 11 last season. In the
game Corby gave up 11 hits and struck out five while earning 3
runs.
Leading the way for the Cardinals in the second
game was junior Ryan Wilkinson (Dearborn) who hit a home run while
going two for three at the plate and banging in 3 rbi's.
SVSU improves their record to 36-11 overall and
23-6 in the GLIAC.
The Cardinals next game will be tomorrow May 10th
when they will play host to Alma College. Game time is slated
for 3:00 p.m.
