Rolls Past Hillsdale
HILLSDALE - The Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinal baseball team was able to beat the Hillsdale University
Chargers in both games of a double header today by the scores
of 5-0 and 13-5.
In the first game Adam Piggot (Sarnia Ontario/Sarnia
Collegiate) was able to hit his first of two home runs of the
day.
The Cardinals were only able to produce four hits
in the game compared to Hillsdale's seven.
Tim Goheen (Proton Station, Ontario) was able to
pitch a complete game shutout for SVSU. The win pushes his record
this season to 4-3. This victory also puts Goheen in a tie for
first place for victories in SVSU baseball history.
In the second game the Chargers just couldn't stop
the Cardinal bats. Leading the way was sophomore Sean Odamura
(Miswsissauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) who went three for four at
the plate and scored 2 runs along with 3 rbi's. Piggot was able
to get his second home run of the day. Adam Ruffner (Gibraltar/Carlson)
had a good game going two for three and manufacturing 3 rbi's.
Freshman Heath Craven (Heartland) was able to get
the win in the second game propelling his record to 3-1 on the
season.
Mike McGinnis (Monroe) releived Craven in the seventh
inning and made short work of the Chargers. "McGinnis pitched
very well for us today." stated assistant coach Shawn Racignol.
The two victories today carries SVSU's record to
27-9 overall and 17-5 in conference play.
The Cardinals will again be in Hillsdale tomorrow
playing another double header against the Chargers. Game time
is slated for noon.
