ERIE, PA - The Saginaw Valley State University
men's baseball team defeated the Knights of Gannon University
in both games of a double header on Sunday.
SVSU took the first game by the score of 16-10.
Junior right hand pitcher Toby Larkin (Bridgeport)
received the win for the Cardinals pushing his record to 5-0 on
the season.
The big story was the tremendous offensive effort
by junior center fielder Jay Scott (Berlington Ontario/Aldershot).
Scott was able to go three for four at the plate with one of his
hits being a grand slam that in the fifth inning put the Cardinals
up for good.
The Cardinals took the second game by the score
of 15-2.
In the fourth with the game tied 1-1 Ryan Wilkinson
(Dearborn) was able to score on a hit from Mike Condon (Utica).
Adam Ruffner (Gibraltar/Carlson) then came to the plate and homered
to left field scoring Condon for what was to be the game winning
runs.
Sean Odemura (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) and
Ruffner were each able to collect 4 rbi's in the game.
Getting the win for the Cardinals was pitcher Andy
Scott (Bay City/Western) who pushes his record to 2-3. Scott pitched
six innings and only gave up five hits and struck out nine Gannon
batters.
SVSU improves their record to 35-10 overall and
22-5 in the GLIAC.
The Cardinals next game will be Wednesday, May 9th
when they will again play a double header at Northwood. Game time
will be at 1p.m.
