Chris Coles

Chris Coles joins Frankie Smith's staff after 17 seasons of coaching at the high school level. As an assistant varsity and head reserve coach, Coles helped Ross High School in Hamilton Ohio to a 16-5 record in the 2006-07 campaign. Coles served three seasons at Ross after serving in the same position for two seasons at Talawanda High School in Oxford, Ohio. Prior to that, Coles was the Head Varsity Coach at Vestaburg High School. Coles helped lead the Wolverines to more wins during the 1998-99 season than the previous three seasons combined. Prior to that, Coles coached at Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, Toledo Central Catholic, and Beal City High School.

Coles was a three year letter winner at Saginaw Buena Vista High School from 1984-86, helping the Knights to three straight Class B State Championship game appearances. Coles climaxed his career by hitting the game winning shot in the 1986 state title game. Known as the "The Shot", Coles launched a 55-footer that swished at the buzzer giving Buena Vista the crown. In addition, Coles earned 1st team All-State, All-Area, All-League, and was named to the "Saginaw News" Dream Team during his senior year. Coles was rewarded for his efforts by playing in the Michigan High School All-Star game and also the Michigan vs. Iowa All Star game. Coles played one season at Central Michigan University during the 1986-87 season.

Coles is a 2006 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, obtaining a bachelors degree in physical education. His wife Robin is a professor at Miami University of Ohio. Coles has three children, Tyson(7), Taya(4), and C.J.(1). His father, Charlie, is the head coach at Miami University of Ohio

 

 

Barry Huckeby

Barry Huckeby joined Frankie Smith's basketball staff at SVSU in September after an 11 year career coaching high school basketball in Indiana. As the head varsity boys coach, his teams compiled a 117-45 record during his 7 seasons at Blue River Valley High school. During those 7 seasons, his teams won 5 Mid-Eastern Conference Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006), 4 IHSAA Class A Sectional Championships (2000,2001,2002,2006), 2 IHSAA Class A Regional Championships (2000, 2001), and his 2001 team was the IHSAA Class A State-Runner Up. Coach Huckeby also spent 2 seasons each as an assistant at Muncie South & Muncie Central High Schools. Along with coaching basketball, Coach Huckeby has 11 years experience teaching math in Indiana.

Barry played his 1991-1992 freshman season at Boston University before transferring to play at Miami University where he graduated in 1996. While at Miami, he was a member of 2 MAC Championship teams (1993 & 1995) as well as competing in 3 post-season tournaments (1993 & 1994 NIT, 1995 NCAA). The 1995 Miami Redskins finished with a 23-7 record after defeating Arizona in the NCAA 1st round and losing to Virginia in double-overtime in the 2nd round. Barry suffered a career ending ankle injury requiring him to take a medical red-shirt his final season at Miami. During his prep career, Barry was a 3 year starter at New Castle High School coached by Sam Alford.

Coach Huckeby received his bachelors degree in Math Education from Miami University (1996) and his masters degree in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University (1999). His wife, Jennifer, is an elementary teacher and they have 3 sons (Jackson (8), Bryson (4), and Wilson (6 months))

 

Eugene Seals

Eugene Seals was born in Saginaw, MI the only son in a family of 8 children. He played basketball at Saginaw High School where he lettered for four years. At Saginaw High school Seals made the Dream Team two consecutive years and was named the Saginaw Valley League MVP in his senior campaign. Seals was also voted runner up for Michigan's Mr. Basketball in 2000 by the high school coaches.

Seals later went to Miami University in Oxford, Oh. He played for Charlie Coles for four years. Seals was voted runner up Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid American Conference. Seals was also named team co-captain his junior and senior seasons.

Eugene Seals graduated from Miami University with a Bachelors of Science in Health and Sports Studies.

Seals played professional basketball in Malaga, Spain and Strumica, Macedonia, each for a year. Then he came back to Saginaw to coach at Saginaw High as the Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach as they spear headed the State of Michigan to win a State Championship last season. Coach Seals joined Coach Frankie Smith's basketball staff in September.
