The Sustainable Aquaculture Initiative is a research partnership between Saginaw Valley State University and the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network (WIN). The initiative hopes to demonstrate the possibility of creating environmentally sustainable businesses along the Saginaw Bay watershed. Our first research project seeks to determine whether it is technically and economically feasible to use waste heat from sugar refining to warm aquaculture ponds in mid-Michigan. If possible, the technology has the potential to create jobs and net exports while improving local water quality. The information on this website is for public use in advancing this research and technology.
