Letters: Jeremiah Stanghini, Student Association President
Dear Alumni,
With each passing year, a new group of young, fresh, and exciting students are admitted to SVSU. Some of these students go to class, do the work, and get the grades they need to succeed. Some students also discover the wonderful world of student leadership. Going into my senior year, I've had the privilege to work with some of SVSU's finest student leaders - Armen Hratchian, '05 and Andy Suszek, '07. Coincidentally, these are my two predecessors as Student Association (SA) President.
Armen was SA President for two years and he helped to implement some of the more philanthropic ideas that SVSU has seen in recent years. The two large events that come to mind are: Battle of the Valleys (raised over $13,000 last year) and Relay for Life (raised $27,000 in 2007 for research). Due to Armen's dedication to his role and to SVSU, it allowed him to move onto graduate school at Syracuse University.
Andy, who just recently graduated, spent four years as a member of SA - the last year serving as the President. He made sure to continue on in the footsteps of Armen to perpetuate the quality of life for the students of SVSU. Andy is now going to graduate school in the Midwest as a result of the effort he put into his academics and student leadership.
Like the two that have gone before me, I am serving as SA President. I believe that other student leaders will be motivated by the energy and effort that I put forth to achieving goals. One such goal is to revamp the smoking policy on-campus. After I graduate May 2008, I hope to go to the University of Michigan to obtain my doctorate in clinical psychology. I feel that the student leadership that I have undertaken in my four years at SVSU will prepare me for not only my work as a graduate student, but it will also prepare me for settings that I will experience throughout my life.
