Pioneer Hall Addition and Renovation

Pioneer Hall was taken out of service for this past year while the existing 45,700 sq. ft. building was totally renovated and a new 30,000 sq. ft. addition was added. New finishes and furniture throughout give the facility the unified and fresh feeling of a single new building. While classroom space remains roughly the same, some additional office space has been added. The largest change has been the addition of many new laboratories. A dedicated automotive lab for the award winning racing program, a new foundry, a new robotics lab along with new CADD and electrical labs are examples of the increased resources available because of this $16,000,000 project. The building is nearly complete. The faculty have moved in and the furnishings and equipment are being installed in the remainder of the building. You are invited to attend the Pioneer Dedication and Celebration on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Noon. Food and refreshments will be served in Pioneer from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. along with guided tours.

Concessions Building

This new building is located on the north side of the Wickes Stadium near the baseball and softball fields. The building has large restrooms as well as space for both food service and retail sales. This building services all of the outdoor sporting events in the area near the stadium. The project was completed this past fall.

Baseball and Softball Stadiums

The old dugouts and moveable bleacher seating at the baseball and softball fields have been replaced with permanent stadium style seating with more capacity and larger masonry dugouts. The press box and batting cages have also has been replaced with newer, more accessible facilities. This work was completed this past spring in time for the opening game of the baseball season.

Housing

Similar to the recent past, new housing has been added to the campus this year. The Village Townhome complex has received a new expansion. Seven Townhome buildings housing 6 four bedroom townhome units each are being completed at this time. Final landscaping and furniture installation is taking place. The new units are located near Pierce Road, west of the existing Village Housing.

Studio Building

The old theater on the south side of campus, which was renovated recently, housed portions of the engineering program this past year while Pioneer Hall was being renovated. This facility, starting this fall will be home to painting and sculpture classes for the Fine Arts program.

Theme Housing

Ground was recently broken for a new housing project. This new project is located on the west side of Pine Grove Apartments, just northeast of the Regional Education Center. It will consist of 4 new buildings housing 34 individuals each. Each building will include single bedrooms, laundry, study areas and a large living room/ gathering space. It is planned to have each building dedicated to a single academic program or discipline. Although they have not been chose, possible themes might be an honors house, language house or a house dedicated to those going into a profession such as nursing or law. This project will be completed for the start of the 2008 fall semester.

Landscaping Projects and Site Renovation Projects

Currently work is going on outdoors in several areas of campus. One of these projects is being built in the inner campus area near the Bell Tower and the Amphitheatre. This project will be a new garden which will be dedicated to the service of Dr. Robert Yien, who was the Vice President of Academic Affairs here at SVSU for many years. The garden will contain sites for future sculptures as well as a water feature along with rock formations and attractive landscaping.
