A message from Gene Hamilton, Special Assistant to the President for Government Relations
Dear "Friends of SVSU":
I am pleased to give you some "good news...bad news" about the "Friends PAC's" finances. The good news is that we began the 2007 year on January 1 with $2,817.93 carried over from 2006. That amount combined with $6,492.00 received in contributions in 2007 has provided a total of $9,309.93 from which we can contribute to fund raisers for legislators, the Governor, and the Lieutenant Governor. While we have exercised prudence in when, how much, and to whom we contribute, the requests have been many and the list continues to grow. Because the number of requests continues to grow, the "bad news' is that almost 70 percent of our 2007 funds have been expended, and we have 50 percent of the year to go.
It should be anticipated that we will have a cut off date in December for 2007 contributions, and any received after that date we will consider to be "2008 PAC Members". We are hoping that anyone still wishing to contribute during the 2007 calendar year will consider sending a check to 4651 Wall Street, Saginaw, MI 48638. Contributions for any amounts are appreciated, but as we are thinking of having another PAC Party at Don Pablo's this Fall, we hope everyone will consider making contributions of at least $20 and possibly the $68 average.
The bottom line at this time is that we are still encouraging SVSU alumni to become part of our 2007 efforts. We expect our area legislators to be looking to us for some help as they continue to advocate for our operating funds and capital outlay requests. They have "office expenses", and they are under continual pressure from their respective parties to gather funds for the next election. Our PAC provides us a means to show our support to our area legislators, regardless of their party affiliation. Of equal importance is our participation at fund raisers for legislators who are not from the Mid-Michigan area but who chair committees which are key to our funding.
As always, feel free to e-mail or call me with your suggestions, questions, or concerns. You can use my campus e-mail (hamilton(at)svsu.edu) and phone (989-964-4069). I hope we will see a fresh supply of new contributions to the PAC as we turn the corner on the 2007 year. Please make checks payable to the "Friends of SVSU"
Sincerely,
Gene Hamilton
