| Summer 2007 |
With the first year behind us and a new class of freshmen coming in, the BEST Program has a lot of upcoming excitement to look forward to for the Fall 2007 and Winter 2008 semesters.
The Business Entrepreneurship Skill Training Program (BEST) is run by the College of Business and Management. BEST is a team-based program to enhance the leadership skills of specially selected high-potential business majors and minors. BEST connects students with regional business executives, community leaders and entrepreneurs, and offers unique opportunities for students to learn and practice the leadership skills needed to succeed in a dynamic global economy. There will be 9 returning students with the BEST program from the Fall 2006 class and 27 new freshmen. SVSU Alumnae, Barbara C. Sageman, '98, '00, Special Assistant to the Dean for External Relations and Business Programs in the College of Business and Management is the Advisor to the BEST Program.
The BEST program held this spring a student and parent orientation for all of the incoming freshmen. With over fifty guests in attendance, the orientation provided new students with an overview of the BEST program and expectations of them throughout the year. Speakers for the event talked with students about Entrepreneurship, Study Abroad, the Family Business Program and the WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) Grant, all of which students will be engaged in throughout their involvement in the BEST program.
This fall top local business speakers and entrepreneurs will meet and engage with BEST students at their weekly Boardroom Meetings. We have partnered with Delphi, Charter Communications, Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center, Mid Michigan Innovation Center, Dale Carnegie Training, IP3, Inc. and Morley Company. Businesses will discuss with the BEST students topics such as entrepreneurship, business plans, leadership, business portfolios, internships, interviewing skills and family business. The program agenda also includes business facility tours, resume workshops, academic advising, Family Business Program involvement and volunteering.
More information about the program is located at the College of Business and Management Web site.
