Celebrate! "An Evening with Jeff Daniels"

Jeff Daniels CelebrateOn Saturday, October 28, 2006 the SVSU Alumni Association will celebrate with alumni and friends at the annual Alumni Celebration. The Association will honor the 2006 Distinguished and Outstanding Alumni with the year's most entertaining event, "An Evening with Jeff Daniels" just for you! The Alumni Celebration is known for its festive reception, Alumni Award presentations and first-class entertainment.

The 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient is Anthony J. Ceccacci, BS '79. Anthony is the Lead Shuttle Flight Director for NASA mission STS-116/12A.1 scheduled to launch in December 2006. He is also the NASA Lead Flight Director for the fourth servicing mission to Hubble Space Telescope. Anthony's distinguished career with NASA included the successful completion of shuttle mission STS-121/ULF1.1 which landed on July 17, 2006.

The recipients of the 2006 Outstanding Alumni Awards are The Honorable Bartholomew Stupak, BA '77, a member of the U.S. House of Representative; Cheryl A. Burzynski, BSN '87, MSN '96, President of Bay Special Care Hospital; James G. Muladore, BBA '72, MBA '82, Vice President at SVSU; and Kathleen J. Spaulding, Ed.S. '00, Superintendent of Van Dyke Public Schools.

Best known as an actor, Jeff Daniels lists the spring 2006 release "RV" with Robin Williams and "Dumb & Dumber" among the 30-plus films on his resume. A lesser known truth is Daniels has been writing songs and playing guitar for 30 years. Daniels' debut CD is "Live and Unplugged" to benefit the Purple Rose Theatre, in his hometown of Chelsea, Michigan. "Like a lot of songwriters," Daniels explains, "I write stuff that means something instead of writing what will sell." Songs like "If William Shatner Can, I Can Too" and "The Lifelong Tiger Fan Blues" are funny, honest and true taking a page from Daniels' own life and career.

Early in his career he abandoned Hollywood to return home to Michigan and create a more normal existence for his young family. Today, three kids and 25 years of marriage later, Daniels' resume reflects a widened passion for the projects he believes in.

Jeff Daniels has sold out theatres all over the country with his 90-minute performance including the 1,500-seat Michigan Theater in Jackson. The Alumni Association expects the Alumni Celebration to sell out quickly.
