Eric R. Gilbertson
became the third president of SVSU in August 1989. Since his arrival,
approximately $186 million in construction has been completed on
the SVSU campus, with enrollments increasing from 5,915 in fall
semester 1989 to 9,168 in fall semester 2003.
President Gilbertson
earned a Juris Doctorate degree (with honors) from Cleveland State
University. He holds a masters of arts in economics from Ohio University
and a bachelor of science degree from Bluffton College (Ohio). Prior
to his arrival at SVSU, Dr. Gilbertson served as president of Johnson
State College (Vermont), was legal counsel to the Ohio Board of
Regents, and was executive assistant to the president of Ohio State
University.
Dr. Gilbertson
has traveled and lectured extensively in Asia. In 1993 he received
an Honorary Doctor of Literature Degree from the University of Mysore,
Karnataka, India. He is also involved in many professional and civic
organizations.

The
Dean of the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences is responsible for the administration
of thirteen academic departments: Art, Communication, Criminal Justice, English, History,
Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Philosophy, Political Science (and Public Administration),
Psychology, Social Work (and Youth Services), Sociology, and Theater. The Dean also administers
two graduate programs (Masters in Communication/Multi-Media and Masters in Leadership and
Public Administration), the Marshall Fredericks Museum, the Bachelors in Applied Studies,
the gender studies minor, the gerontology minor, and the International Studies major.

The Vice President of Public Affairs and Executive Director of
Development and the SVSU Foundation provides leadership to the
SVSU Foundation and the Office of University Communications. The
Vice President/Executive Director is responsible for advancing
the mission of the University by strengthening relationships with
key constituencies, both internal and external; heightening public
awareness of SVSU as a key cultural, business, and intellectual
resource for our region; and raising private funds to support scholarships,
programs, capital improvements, and other strategic initiatives.

The Dean of
the College of Science, Engineering and Technology is
responsible for seven departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computer
Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
Mathematics, and Physics. In addition, the College offers one
graduate
degree; the Masters of Science in Technological Processes. The
curricula for the College are designed to prepare students for
productive careers in technical and scientific fields or for
advanced
graduate study. Our courses emphasize both conceptual understanding
and
real world projects from local industrial partners.
Dr. Williams
received his PhD from the University of Georgia and has
taught at Ohio University, Clemson University, and Armstrong Atlantic
State University before becoming dean at SVSU in 2003.

The Special
Assistant to the President for International Programs directs
the Office of International Programs which is responsible for
recruiting, admitting and assisting international students; coordinating
and promoting study abroad programs; developing opportunities
for faculty abroad; bringing international guest faculty to campus;
supervising the Intensive English Language Program; and promoting
other activities to support the internationalization of the campus.

The Executive Assistant to the President
acts as liaison between the Chief Administrative Officer and various internal and external
sources, addressing inquiries/concerns and providing interpretive information on policies,
practices and procedures of the University. The Executive Assistant also directs, coordinates,
manages and serves as the point of contact for special projects and events, as assigned.
