Faculty and staff at SVSU use the Groupwise e-mail system. It can be accessed either through the Groupwise client software, resident on your computer or through a web-browser at https://gw.svsu.edu/. All faculty are expected to check their Groupwise mail accounts because the university email system is the primary means of communication for students, faculty, and administration.
Cardinal Direct is a secure centralized system for student and faculty information. Faculty can find the complete course schedule as well as their own course rosters, teaching schedules, payroll records, and other information regarding their employment at SVSU. Students register for classes through Cardinal Direct and can access their class schedules, transcripts, and financial information. The Cardinal Direct web site also provides access to exam dates, registration dates, and the academic calendar.
Most classrooms at SVSU are equipped with projection systems and many have smart podiums, which include PC's, DVD players, VCR players, document cameras, Internet access, and data projectors. Classrooms with basic technology packages have projections systems and Internet access, but faculty must bring a laptop. Laptops and other equipment can be checked out for instructional purposes. If you have problems with the technology during class, you may call the instructional technology office using the classroom phones. The number (phone) is posted in the rooms.
V-pace is our implementation of the Sakai Open Source Course Management system. (We are currently in the midst of a transition from VSpace to V-Space; no new courses are being implemented in VSpace.) Roughly half of SVSU courses use an electronic course management system and students and faculty appreciate the tools that the course management systems provide.
Faculty have access to backup and storage space on the university servers. This storage is found as the M: drive on the university network. From remote locations, the M: drive can be accessed through a web-browser using the url: http://www.svsu.edu/typo/file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/acoburn/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures . The M: drive can be used to back up computer files and to store files for use at smart podiums. Also, the M: drive is the storage location for email and VSpace archives.
