About

At the Scott L. Carmona College of Business, our diligent Accounting students defy limits, overcome challenges, and soar to new heights. Our Cardinals are driven by grit and determination, fueled by passion, and dedicated to pushing themselves as scholars, leaders, and professionals. Accounting students can forge their own path and tailor their education to meet their own goals and career aspirations by selecting either the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA) or the Bachelor of Professional Accountancy (BPA). With nearly 100 percent job placement, either option is a strong foundation for a successful career. Both programs include the same comprehensive fundamentals in accounting, but the BPA adds the 26 additional credits of coursework required to take the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), one of the most respected and desirable credentials in the business world. With programs led by experts and AACSB accreditation as one of the top 5% of business schools worldwide, our students are supported and challenged by their professors to maximize their potential and reach for the extraordinary. If you are driven to make an impact and advance in an ever-changing dynamic global business environment, we invite you to experience all that the SVSU Accounting program has to offer.

As an Accounting student, undergraduates will learn the fundamentals of business whether through pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Professional Accountancy (BPA). Both programs feature a cutting-edge curriculum beginning with business cognates that develop critical communication and quantitative skills. A robust business core builds on that foundation with a selection of courses from across all business disciplines while students are also developing expertise in a variety of advanced accounting courses that highlight the trends and technologies that are driving the profession. Over 124 credits of coursework, the BBA degree is intended to provide students with the preparation to go into an organization and make an immediate impact. Over 150 credits of coursework, the BPA goes well beyond the undergraduate level in accounting to prepare students to excel on the CPA exam and launch a successful career in a public accounting firm as a tax or audit expert.
