Theatre
The SVSU Theatre Program seeks to provide opportunities for individuals to develop their creative talents through study and application. The program emphasizes a sound understanding of theory and practice through exploration of various perspectives about theatre in Western civilization, readings in dramatic literature, and the development of creative talents and skills. Live theatrical productions (pictured is a 2006 production of "A Christmas Carol") provide students with artistic and cultural growth.
Why SVSU?
- SVSU offers the possibility for student-directed productions, and incoming freshmen have the chance for main-stage involvement in the areas of acting or technical production.
- SVSU has hosted nationally renowned playwrights in programs that allow meaningful interaction with students.
- A year-round performance schedule is maintained, with eight shows produced per year (at least two shows every semester, including spring/summer), which is comparable to large universities’ schedules.
- The dual enrollment program allows high school seniors to take college-level Theatre classes.
- Introductory classes are taught by full-time faculty members.
- The Theatre department offers trips to, and encourages students to participate in the American College Theatre Festival and the National Alliance for Theater Education conference.
- The average size of Theatre classes is only 25 students, allowing for meaningful interaction with professors.
