Nouvel Catholic High School

Deliah Kashat is currently completing a dual degree in Sociology and French at SVSU.  She plans to attend graduate school afterward.

“I knew I wanted to major in Sociology when I took a ‘Social Problems’ Sociology course. This type of class really captured my attention, and I looked forward to going to a class every week.”

“SVSU is a growing community with a talented and diverse student body that will accomplish great things in the future.”

“I have many favorite professors: I really enjoy learning from Dr. Hinderer, who teaches the Roberts Fellowship Seminars. I also favor Dr. Boye-Beaman, who encouraged me to participate in the American Sociological Honors Program in Montréal, Canada.  I worked under her guidance on a research project that I presented at this conference.”

“Finally, I am very grateful to Professor Coburn-Collins for allowing me to use my ‘sociological imagination’ and encouraging me to major in Sociology. These people have made a tremendous impact in my life.”

“The strongest point about the Sociology Department is that students are given opportunities to do internships, work closely with professors on research topics that they are interested in, and cultural experiences abroad are available, such as Dr. Youngstedt’s upcoming group trip to Senegal.”

“Overall, I would describe the faculty as very helpful and willing to relate to students on a personal level.”

“The campus community at SVSU is really wonderful for students who take the time to get involved.”

Deliah is the Diversity Officer of the Student Association, a member of Alpha Mu Gamma Foreign Language Honors Society, the Sociology Club, and is a Roberts Fellow.
