John Klass

John Klass is currently a senior at SVSU, and is completing a double major in psychology and sociology.  He is also a member of the Honors Program.

“I chose SVSU because it seemed to have such a strong impact on the students who go here.  I realized that I could earn a degree anywhere, but SVSU could give me a genuine higher education.  I've never regretted making that choice.”

“The staff is the strength behind SVSU’s programs.  The professors have varied backgrounds -- some are very strong in theory and others are very strong in applied fields.  The benefit is that students get to experience both sides, but you can focus your learning depending on your own interests.”

“My favorite professor of all time, though, was Dr. David Rayfield of the philosophy department.  He took his job as a mentor seriously, and consistently challenged all of us to live up to our potentials. The fundamentals that I learned from Dr. Rayfield in just two classes made every class afterwards seem so much easier and more enjoyable.”

“The atmosphere at SVSU is generally positive.  You don't see a lot of complaining about things, you only see people trying to make things better.”

“When I returned to college I was fascinated by how people interacted with each other, so sociology was a logical choice. I needed my major to be a subject that I truly enjoyed and wanted to learn more about, not just something that would eventually earn me more money.”

“The most challenging project I ever worked on at SVSU was the two semesters I spent working on my senior research project.  I was on a team of four students designing and performing research under the guidance of Dr. Lou Cohen.  This was a new experience for all of us involved, and we were all depending on each other, and ultimately it was a very rewarding experience.”
