Tyler Germain

Tyler Germain is currently pursuing a degree in Secondary Education, focusing on English. His ultimate goal is to teach high school English as well as coach sports. “It is my hope that I’ll be able to find a job at a school where I can teach high school English full time until I retire.  Teaching is my ideal job, because it gives you the opportunity to reach so many people on a daily basis and prepare them for their own futures.   I also want to coach sports for years to come; I’ve been coaching track and field for three years now, and I love it!  It’s so rewarding to be a part of the improvements that athletes make, and I look forward to coaching for a long, long time.”

SVSU is known for its great Teacher Education program and that is why Tyler chose SVSU. “The Teacher Education program at SVSU is one of the best around, so the decision was an easy one to make.” Tyler is pleased with his decision; he has nothing but great things to say about SVSU and his experience here.  “The staff and faculty at SVSU are all extremely helpful.  They put forth their best efforts to be the best teachers they can be in hopes that their students will one day become great teachers as well.”

Tyler not only loves the program, but he is also a big fan of the professors that have helped him over the years. “I’ve had tons of great English professors here at SVSU that have helped push me to become a better writer. Professors Dan Cook, Melissa Seitz, and Helen Raica-Klotz are a few to name.  Another professor who has helped me quite a bit is Dr. Bob Pratt.  My minor is Physical Education, and Dr. Pratt has bent over backwards to help me succeed in the program, which really shows how much he cares for his students and prepares them to excel as they become teachers.”

Tyler also participates in other activities that have helped him hone his craft. He is a member of Cardinal Sins, the literary magazine on Campus, and he also works at the Writing Center. In Cardinal Sins, Tyler gets the opportunity to read and edit many different styles of writing. With the Writing Center, he gets to practice his teaching skills.

“In the Writing Center, I have the opportunity to help students succeed every day.  I love my job because it gives me a chance to teach on a very personal level.  During my time in the Writing Center, I’ve also been very lucky to be surrounded by other great writers and mentors that have helped me grow as a writer and a tutor, both of which will serve me well in my teaching career.”

“Students who graduate from the Education program at SVSU have an immediate advantage when they enter the job market.  SVSU’s program is one of the best when it comes to Education, so schools are looking to hire SVSU graduatess before others.   Having a degree in Education from SVSU will provide you with so many opportunities for the future.”
