Matt Bentley chose to transfer to SVSU after attending Michigan State University because SVSU’s Physics program is more flexible and offers more options.
“I like that students can choose to specialize in a specific area of physics, such as optics or chemical physics. Not a lot of other universities offer this level of choice to undergraduates.”
“The thing I like most about SVSU’s Physics program is that you get to see some of the latest research in the world. The department’s research with lasers, optical electronics, fiber optics, and optical sensing is world renowned. This is something that is simply not available at MSU. The laboratory facilities at SVSU are as high-tech as any university could possibly be.”
“At SVSU, it is very easy to get to know your professors because the classes are small, which in my experience makes the learning experience so much better.”
“My most challenging class was Mathematical Methods in Physical Science. The subject matter was extremely intricate and advanced – it blew me away at first. But the professor made the material seem easy in the way he presented it. Also, the professors at SVSU make learning very personal. They always invite questions during lectures and are available to answer questions outside of class.”
“Overall, I think the good study habits I learned at SVSU will allow me to continue to learn new things for the rest of my life. I feel very confident about my ability to become a professional after I graduate.”
“Eventually I would like to enroll in a Master’s program, but I want to work in the professional sector for a few years first. Physics majors are usually very well suited for jobs in the security and defense sector, and also for computer programming as a result of the strong background in math.”
