Jolene Heidenberg
Vassar High School
Jolene Heidenberg is a junior at SVSU, and she is completing a minor in philosophy and a double major in psychology and Spanish. Jolene is interested in neuropsychology and forensic psychology, and plans to earn an advanced degree after she graduates.
“I chose to minor in philosophy because it is simply the most interesting subject I have ever studied. The material is challenging and the professors do a great job of teaching objectively about topics that are usually viewed as entirely subjective.”
“I first became interested in philosophy when I took Professor Hill’s class in logic, in which I learned skills that have carried through to all of my other classes, especially the psychology classes in my major. Aristotle, one of the most famous philosophers, invented the basis for the modern discipline of psychology.”
“Philosophy gives you the tools to figure out how to look at all areas of a problem, to analyze an ethical dilemma and decide the morally sound course of action.”
“Philosophy allows you to tie together all of the knowledge you earn in all the classes you will ever take. I highly recommend it.”
