Occupational Therapy
Entry-Level Program in Occupational Therapy
SVSU offers an entry-level, five-year program leading to the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (M.S.O.T.) degree.
The program in occupational therapy (OT) provides students with the knowledge, techniques and clinical reasoning skills necessary to assume entry-level positions as registered occupational therapists.
The program also prepares students to critically and creatively function in a variety of health-related settings; to adapt to changes in health care; and to adapt to and assume nontraditional roles in the health care field.
Why SVSU?
- SVSU’s OT facilities are state-of-the-art and modern, providing frequent opportunities for learning in a simulated healthcare environment.
- Although there is no limit to the number of students admitted to the program, demanding admissions criteria keeps class sizes small, allowing OT faculty to interact with students in a caring manner.
- Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) examination.
- After successful completion of the NBCOT exam, the graduate will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses usually are based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.
- The OT Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
- The average class size at SVSU is only 24 students, allowing for meaningful interation between faculty and students.
