Robert LaRocque

Robert LaRocque, a John Glenn High School graduate, is currently a senior in SVSU’s French program, and is planning to attend a school of dentistry after he graduates.

“I chose SVSU because it was closer to home, class sizes were smaller, and SVSU seemed to be constantly upgrading the campus facilities, expanding the campus, and providing the most up to date technology to students.”

“The French program at SVSU has a lot going for it. The professors are extremely knowledgeable in not only the French language, but also in the culture, history, and traditions of France and various other French speaking countries, and there is also a wide variety of classes to choose from.”

“The faculty members at SVSU are all experts in their field, and there is a great deal of diversity in the subjects they teach, their backgrounds, or their experience.”

In addition to his studies, Robert is active in the area community: He has been a lifeguard at the Bay Area Family YMCA, a swim instructor for Bangor Recreation Learn to Swim program, and also works as an assistant at Standish Family Dental Center. Robert is also a coach for the Bay Area Youth Swim Club.

Robert is a member of Alpha Mu Gamma, the national foreign language honorary, in which he served on the executive board. He has also been involved with the promotion of foreign language study on campus, Relay for Life, the Salvation Army Ring-the-Bell campaign, and various other projects.”

“SVSU is a community of people from all different backgrounds, from all over the state of Michigan, the United States, and people from many countries from all over the world. It is a diverse community in which people bring something unique to the campus environment. Everybody is very friendly and open to experience new things.”

“The most important thing that I learned at SVSU is to be accepting of other peoples, to respect their heritage, their culture, their traditions, and their values. Most important, we must experience everything with an open mind and learn to appreciate the world in which we live.”
