Andrea Roedel

Vassar High School
Intern, Saginaw Spirit

Andrea Roedel is a student in SVSU’s B.B.A. program in Marketing, and is currently completing an internship as a Marketing Assistant at IP3, Inc. She will then move on to a second internship with the Saginaw Spirit hockey team.

“At a young age, I was always captivated by the greeting card aisle and the humor created by so few words printed on the cards. Commercials also intrigued me; I could remember jingles at the drop of a hat, and I often enjoyed them more than the TV show I was watching. This was really the beginning of my interest in the power of marketing.”

“SVSU’s program really gives you a broad understanding of the different elements of marketing: economics, accounting, finance, management, law, and statistics.   It is important to have knowledge in all of these areas and to understand how they work together in order to be successful.”

“There are so many different career options within marketing such as public relations, advertising, consumer behavior, event coordinating, and promotional events, just to name a few – I honestly don’t know exactly which one I want to work in yet.”

“SVSU is friendly and safe, which provides for a great learning environment. And, because the school is still fairly small, developing relationships and becoming friends with plenty of diverse people is relatively easy. To put it simply, SVSU is a family.”

“The professors at SVSU are dedicated and really engage the students in learning -- they are the ones that make the difference and make the SVSU experience such a great one.

“The instructors are always willing to help, can adapt their teaching methods to the needs of the students, and can relate the course material to real-life situations – they are the most valuable resources this University has.”

Andrea also completed an honors thesis project recently, which was titled, “The Evolution of Masculinity: Marketing and the Appearance of Man,” which she described as, “a huge undertaking, especially because I took a course as an independent study in conjunction with the project, which means that I had to make the time to work on the project and prioritize which tasks to do and when to do them.  But, it was a very rewarding experience.”

“It’s hard to choose one scenario to sum up everything at SVSU; it’s really the small everyday things that make SVSU what it is. It’s the friendly stranger that smiles and says, ‘hi’ as you’re passing by; it’s the professors who really care when they see you’re trying just as hard as they are; it’s taking study breaks to go have snowball fights, make snow angels, or go rollerblading with your friends. Remember what you’re here for, but still try to have fun in the process!”
