Mari Pionk

Mari Pionk is a student in the Business Management Program at SVSU. Her future plans include going to law school after she graduates. After law school, Mari has big goals. “I am thinking about going into human resources and using my degree in that aspect, working for a corporation and sort of fighting their battles. I see my degree from SVSU being a stepping stone for whatever else comes my way after I graduate.”

Mari absolutely loves SVSU and has since she first decided to go here. “I loved everything about the university. The size of SVSU is small but perfect; I feel comfortable and it is very easy to get well acquainted with the school. From my first visit to SVSU, I was immediately attached to the amazing facilities and faculty. The students who attend SVSU, in my opinion, are one of a kind.”

The Business Program has a lot to offer to its students. Mari is amazed by all of the opportunity. “I only recently joined the Business Program but already the staff and faculty are extremely helpful and encouraging and willing to help with whatever I need. The scholarships are also a huge plus to the program, as well as the emails I constantly receive informing me of job opportunities for the future.”

People say that the basics are the most important, and Mari agrees. “I definitely feel that Economics 151 has been the most helpful class for me thus far. It is a basic level class and is a requirement for all business majors. I learned a ton of material that I know I will use in future business classes. Also, Economics 221 was also a big help. Dr. Surfield was very influential during this class. Although his teaching methods were, at times, a bit out of the ordinary, he was always energetic and enthusiastic about helping his students learn. He not only taught us what was required, but also taught us about things that happen in our everyday lives that will help us now and in the future. He was always available for questions or guidance.”

Although Mari is new to the program, she already has an internship set up working for a law firm. This will help her see if she truly enjoys this type of work. The fact that she already has an internship really shows how important internships are in the Business Program; they are a priority because real world experience is a must in this field.
“The Business Program really helps to push the students in the right direction after college, as far as placement goes and what’s out there. The emails for jobs as well as the job fair are great opportunities for the Business students. I really have faith that my education from SVSU will provide me with a great career in the future.”
