Josh OdeKINE--Ode--MD

Ph.D. student, Michigan State University
Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at SVSU

Josh Ode graduated from SVSU’s program in Physical Education K-12, and then went on to a Master’s program at Central Michigan University. He is now finishing his Ph.D. at Michigan State, and recently was hired by SVSU as an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology.

“SVSU’s program prepares you for teaching before you ever get to the classroom, because the experiences are designed to prepare you for everything you need to know to work in the public schools.”

Most of all, I appreciated the opportunities to work individually with professors at SVSU. They are always in your corner.

“I see great attention to detail in the classes that are offered at SVSU, and in the structure of the program. The right experiences are provided in the right sequence. Over the years the program has changed to reflect all of the new career possibilities that have popped up recently.”

“The opportunities to team teach in front of peers even before the first official field work experience really prepared me for graduate school and a career in teaching.”

Josh is currently completing his dissertation, the final requirement before a Doctorate is awarded, at Michigan State University. His project involves using a brand new technology that became available in only the last two years to study health and athletic behaviors over the life span, in an expandable cohort of subjects.

Josh is using a longitudinal surveillance search engine technology that measures multiple variables and will hopefully provide researchers with a new understanding of the relationship between athletic behavior and overall health, along with a host of other factors.

“There is a lot of opportunity at SVSU.”
