Armen Hratchian

Administrator, Enrollment and Student Services
New York University Wagner School of Public Service

Armen Hratchian graduated from SVSU’s English program in 2005, and afterwards earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Public Affairs, which is ranked second in the nation.  He now works at New York University.

“The best thing about SVSU is that there are so many opportunities to be involved in things that will really set you apart after you graduate.  I built an excellent portfolio at SVSU, which allowed me to do exactly what I wanted to do.”

While at SVSU, Armen served for a year as a Resident Advisor, and as president of the SVSU Student Association for two years.

“Serving on Student Association gave me the chance to develop practical skills with experienced leaders.  For example, I ran a $200,000 budget, participated in committees that manage the University’s academic policies, curriculum review, and tuition.”

“SVSU is special because students are empowered with access to the highest levels and the ability to affect change.  SVSU is a place to learn with a personal touch.”

“One of my most memorable experiences at SVSU was a directed study project I worked on with Dr. Janice Wolff.  I approached her because I wanted to study the social issues involved in access to education in our society, and we worked together to develop a personalized course of study for me on the important theoretical idea of “cultural capital.”

“Overall, the extra benefit that SVSU students receive is the chance to develop professional skills while you are still a student, through interaction with highly skilled professionals.”
