Gina Wilson graduated from SVSU’s program in Elementary Education in May 2000 after attending Reese High School. She now teaches 1st Grade in what was her first choice of school districts, Swan Valley.
“I chose SVSU because it was close to home, but more important, it’s education program is nationally recognized as the best in the state, and students are given more experience in a classroom setting.”
“The education program itself is excellent. The professors are down-to-earth and very supportive. They know what today’s world is like, and they bring real-world examples to their teaching.”
“My favorite professors were Dr. Owocki and Dr. Emonds, who I still keep in touch with. Both professors took me to places I never thought possible, and made me rethink who I am as a person and who I can be as an educator.”
“The most important aspect of my experience at SVSU is the support and knowledge base of the faculty. As a student in the program I felt I was armed with all kinds of solutions to problems I would encounter and practical ideas that would allow me to deal with any situation.”
“Overall, the experience was great, especially my fieldwork in the classroom. The extra hours of fieldwork made me feel very well prepared and taught me to get to know my students and create a sense of family in the classroom, just like the kids have at home.”
Gina also completed an optional endorsement program that allowed her to be certified as a Reading Specialist.
“SVSU has given me more than I’ve ever asked for.”
