Elementary Education

SVSU’s elementary education program provides a supervised teaching experience in the first year of enrollment, allowing you to experience teaching before enrolling in education courses. Prior to student teaching, students have 300 hours of experiences with students, teachers, and administrators.

The Elementary Teacher Education program consists of:

1) SVSU Basic Skills Requirements

2) General Education Requirements (35 credits in 10 areas, see curriculum)

3) Elementary Education majors select two minors from the following three options: Integrated Science, Language Arts, Mathematics; or select a Social Studies major and complete a planned program that incorporates the other core content areas beyond the major or two minors, and health education, physical education, visual and performing arts, and world languages.

4) Professional Education Requirements (taken upon admission to the College of Education) -- curriculum
