Jeffrey Foldie
Recent graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School
Jeff Foldie graduated from SVSU in 2004 with a major in Criminal Justice after having worked as a corrections officer for 17 years.
A self-described ‘latecomer’ to higher education, Jeff has since graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (in 2005), and has just taken the state bar exam. He is hoping to specialize in criminal defense and employment law.
Jeff was included among the Top 10 Oral Advocates in his second year at law school, an accomplishment he attributes in part to his years at SVSU, where in addition to his CJ major, he completed a minor in Drama and Theatre.
“SVSU does an extraordinary job of getting people to have confidence in themselves, and they teach the art of communicating passionately and effectively with people.”
“I was very comfortable at SVSU. It has the level of academics and productivity of a big campus, but the professors are so much more personable here. They don’t put up any barriers.”
“While I was at SVSU, I developed a strong professional relationship with Dr. Dorne, after I presented a paper at the annual meeting of the National Criminal Justice Society in Anaheim, California. Dr. Dorne and I traveled together and got to know each other well.”
Jeff and Dr. Dorne continue to be professional associates to this day, and are currently working on brokering a training relationship between the University and other organizations that Jeff is affiliated with.
“The professors at SVSU work hard to be more than professors. They want to communicate with you on your level.”
“In my experience in the field of Criminal Justice, dealing with people is the subject matter. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to do this type of work, but what you do need is the ability to put yourself in another’s shoes. And that is a hard thing to do that takes a great deal of skill.”
“The most important skill I learned at SVSU is how to be a flexible professional who can understand multi-faceted solutions to problems.”
