... of St. Charles is a senior in SVSU’s Computer Science program and is also enrolled in the Honors program. Joshua recently made a public presentation of his completed honors thesis, which was the culmination of a semester-long research project directed by his faculty advisor.
Joshua’s project was titled, “The Future of the Web: Collaborative Technologies at Work,” which allowed him to study in-depth the most popular web design languages in use today. Joshua examined how there came to be so many different programming languages in use, and based on his findings, made predictions about what direction he believes the Web will go in the future.
Joshua’s project, which was directed from start to finish by Professor Morteza Marzjarani of the CS department, concluded that we will never have one single development language that meets the needs of everyone, because the Web today is being used for so many radically different purposes in people’s lives and in business.
Joshua recalls the time when he was just starting in college, and was still undecided about which college to attend: “I chose SVSU because I knew I was interested in computer science, and SVSU had the most options available. Here you can concentrate in Information Systems, or Computer Math, Network Administration, basically anything you could want.”
“The program is challenging, but it really keeps you interested because there are lecture-based classes along with hands-on, project-based classes. Students are taught how to do things systematically, one step at a time.”
“The professors here are great – they are always open to changes in ways of doing things, and they let you adapt your coursework to suit your interests. Most importantly, they are interested in students, willing to provide guidance, and are always willing to help if there is something you don’t understand.”
Joshua is also a student employee working in the CS department’s Programming Lab, which is devoted entirely to CS majors, located in the Doan Science Building East.
