Computer Science and Information Systems
Graduates are employed in many phases of the analysis, design, manufacturing, testing, research, development and administration of computer systems.
Why SVSU?
- The curriculum is noted for the many laboratory and project experiences. Software design and development is taught and integrated throughout the curriculum.
- All students receive personal attention from the instructors, because class sizes are small.
- The department has a Digital Equipment Corporation MicroVax minicomputer running UNIX, a Linux server, PCs running Windows 95 and 98 and Silicon Graphics Workstations. Students become versed in both C++ and Visual Basic.
- SVSU has twice as many computers per student than the national average.
- Classes are taught by qualified and experienced faculty members, many of whom hold the highest degrees in their field. No courses are taught by graduate students.
- Students can get involved in the SVSU Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), a national professional-level organization.

Majors
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (CS) -- curriculum
Concentration in either Software Engineering; Computer Systems and Networking; or a "Generalist" track.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) -- curriculum
A solid background in business combined with computer science. The CIS curriculum is supported by the departments of Mathematics, Management, Accounting and Economics. Students gain communication skills; leadership qualities; and cultural, social and international awareness.
